'The Joe We Know' documentary to be shown Oct. 16
"The Joe We Know," a feature documentary film about Penn State football coach Joe Paterno, will be presented at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, in the John E. Morgan Auditorium at Penn State Schuylkill.
This event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required to attend. Planners request a $10 donation per person to support THON and student scholarships at Penn State Schuylkill. Doors open at 6 p.m. To reserve tickets, preview highlights of the film and learn more, visit www.tjwkmovie.wordpress.com.
Former Nittany Lions players shared their personal stories in the film, highlighting the inspiration of their mentor and coach. These men, who have gone on to become professional athletes, doctors, lawyers, teachers, engineers and more, credit Paterno and his "Grand Experiment" football program for their personal and professional successes.
Originally envisioned as a surprise gift for Paterno's 85th birthday, the film was shot in January 2012 in 12 days, in five cities: State College, Pittsburgh, New York, Philadelphia and Baltimore. Seventy athletes from six decades were interviewed. Paterno passed away three days after filming was complete, unaware of the film's existence.
This event is presented by the Penn State Schuylkill Alumni Society, the Schuylkill Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association, the Office of Student Affairs at Penn State Schuylkill and the Penn State Lettermen who produced the documentary.
