CLINICAL EDUCATION SUPERVISION

Radiography students are subject to direct supervision as defined by the "Standards". The parameters of direct supervision are:

1. A qualified Radiographer reviews the request for examination in relation to the student's achievement.

2. A qualified Radiographer evaluates the condition of the patient in relation to the student's knowledge.

3. A qualified Radiographer is present during the performance of the examination.

4. A qualified Radiographer reviews and approves the radiographs.

In support of professional responsibility for provision of quality patient care and radiation protection, unsatisfactory radiographs shall be repeated only in the presence of a qualified Radiographer, regardless of the student's level of competency.

Radiography students are directly supervised for their clinical education until they have proven competency in radiographic procedures and then function under indirect supervision for those exams in which they have proven competency.

Indirect supervision is defined as "that supervision provided by a qualified radiographer immediately available to assist student regardless of the level of student achievement.

"Immediately Available" is interpreted as the presence of a qualified radiographer adjacent to the room or location where a radiographic procedure is being performed. This applies to all areas where ionizing radiation equipment is in use."

Clinical instructors may utilize indirect supervision for each student on an exam by exam basis if that student has successfully completed the Clinical Competency Evaluation Form for the specific Examination.

* Disciplinary action will result if student does not comply with this policy.

REPEAT RADIOGRAPH POLICY

REGARDLESS OF STUDENT STATUS REPEAT RADIOGRAPHIC EXAMINATIONS WILL BE PERFORMED WHILE A REGISTERED RADIOGRAPHER IS PRESENT .

Radiographer participation will be documented at the time of the repeat on the repeat film record form.

* Disciplinary action will result if student does not comply with this policy.
