Penn State Schuylkill and Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29 host STEM Day
Penn State Schuylkill and the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29 will host a science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) event on Saturday, November 9, 2013. Eighty students are enrolled in the 21st Century Community Learning Center program from Pottsville Area, North Schuylkill, and Williams Valley School Districts, and they will engage in various hands-on activities designed to generate enthusiasm and a desire to learn more about science, technology, engineering, and math. Students will be encouraged to consider careers in STEM related fields and to set goals to achieve academic success.
The program will be conducted by Penn State Schuylkill faculty members; Dr. Rod Heisey and Dr. Darcy Medica will lead the students in biology activities; Dr. Michael Gallis will engage the students in physics; Dr. Elinor Madigan will work with the students on computer generated activities; and Nancy Schorschinsky will introduce the students to the world of chemistry.
This is the second year that Penn State Schuylkill has partnered with Schuylkill IU 29 for STEM Saturday. This is an IU 29 grant funded program through the 21st Century Community Learning Center program.
